Rays of Sunshine

A little over a year ago, my cousin passed away as a result of a bike accident. He was almost 14 years old. As tragic as this was, there has been so much good that has come since. He was an inspiration to many people in his positive and cheerful outlook on life. One of my favorite stories is of him proposing marriage to his teacher!!!

At the school he attended, there is a nature walk dedicated to his memory where students and teachers can enjoy the outdoors. They can use it as an outdoor classroom, or simply as somewhere to walk and reflect. It's pretty cool, the Norwich Bulletin and WTNH channel 8 news both covered the opening of "Will's Way." There is a scholarship in his name at his school where deserving graduating students receive a scholarship if they eminate the qualities that Will was all about, caring, kindness, and contribution to the student body. (There may be more qualifications, but those are the ones that I think are fabulous!)

Now, there is a 5k on August 7, 2010, the First Annual Will's Way 5k!! The proceeds from the 5k will go to benefit the scholarship program. There are many sponsors involved from all over the communities of Northeastern Connecticut. I am proud to say that I am walking (maybe running if I can get my act together) in Will's Way 5k because I want to honor the memory of my cousin.

I don't know if this is the appropriate spot for it, but if anyone would like to sponsor me or the 5k that I know, that would be wonderful!!! Any and all contributions will be appreciated, no matter the size, it is the inspiration that matters! If you would like to help, please feel free to contact me or you can go directly to the website, which I will post as a follow-up to this.

My Very First Blog.... almost....

The Sunny Side? So I tend to be cheerful, a roll with the punches kind of gal. I think the glass is half full, I always cheer for the underdog, and I like almost everyone I meet. Lately though, the rose colored glasses are wearing a bit thin.
